Algonquin Pillar Swiss Stone Pine
Pinus cembra ‘Algonquin Pillar’ is a narrow, upright gorgeous tree with long, two-toned needles that twist and weave together to form lustrous, bushy branches. It is extremely hardy and needs little pruning to maintain a large, but slender stature. As yet underused, it makes a vastly superior alternative for P. flexilis ‘Vanderwolf’s Pyramid’, especially in suburban landscapes. With slower growth, it fits in many positions and stays in scale. Trees develop large trunks and retain foliage to the base, unlike other pines that lose needles on shaded lower branches.
