Chibikko Japanese White Pine
‘Chibikko’ is a Japanese word that translates to “small child,” “rugrat,” or “ankle-biter.” This feisty little Japanese white pine, found as a ‘Kinpo’ seedling, is a wee conifer with a big personality. Its short branches, which grow just 1-2″ inches per year, bristle with blue-green needles. The specimen in our garden has demonstrated a remarkable adaptability to shade, making this collector’s gem a nice addition to a darker corner of the rock garden or a container grouping on a covered patio.
