A profusion of dark red, bell-shaped flowers nods from the delicate, upright branches of this medium-sized shrub. In autumn, the small, whorled, green leaves become a remarkable, deep, dark red. This slow-growing, pest-free native of Japan grows best in moist, rich, acidic soil.
